These past weeks, the sparrows and I have followed a 'trail to the tree' through the gospels and into the Easter weekend and it has been a joy. We met John the Baptist and saw water turned to wine. We joined in singing the hosannas as we welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem and feasted with the disciples on that night full of tension. We welcomed with glad hearts the Good News of the gospel pouring out into our Sunday after the tragedy of that Friday.
What better way to spend Maunday Thursday than to to partake in a Messianic Passover Seder. We were blessed to have been invited and enlightened and look forward to doing our own.
The Matzoh and the wine....Scored and pierced like the body of our saviour. Our host broke one of these Matzohs in two to symbolize the breaking of the body of Christ in death. He then wrapped half in a serviette, this is called the afikomen, and hid it for the children to find at the end of the feast to remind us that the body of Christ lay in the tomb 3 days before He was risen.
Well the oldest sparrow loves a challenge, especially if a reward is involved and our host promised one for the child that found the afikomen. 15minutes later an excited voice and raised eyebrows exclaimed " I found it, I found it!!!" After sending him off to the host it turns out the afikomen is NOT supposed to be found til the END of the celebrations. WHOOPS! Our host very graciously pointed this out but added that the sparrow could have a prize for such efficient searching. He appeared later with a crumpled five pound note in his hand looking like the cat who got the cream...
We enjoyed fresh air on the morning of good Friday and the Lords Supper later with friends.
A Lego challenge featured scenes from the Easter story and what wonderful creations there were....donkeys, Pontius Pilate, the last supper, the ascension, the empty tomb and more...
